RetroEngine Sigma Rivals NES Classic Edition (VIDEO)

With the holiday season upon us, the rush to grab those highly coveted Christmas gifts is in full swing. One such item that’s hot on everyone’s wish list is the NES Classic Edition... you know, the console that Nintendo can’t produce fast enough for eager fans. While this can be extremely frustrating for families and gamers across the country, the wait is ever ongoing as people beg for production to pick up speed in time for Christmas. But not all hope is lost. In the midst of this crisis of mini proportions, and the very real concern that Nintendo may never be able to keep up with the demand of these consoles, comes a tiny little contender to the retro-gaming scene: The RetroEngine Sigma.

RetroEngine Sigma

The RetroEngine Sigma console promises a future of seemingly endless possibilities, and developers claim that the wee little machine will support additional Rom and emulator installation from a microSD adapter. The RetroEngine Sigma will also have an HDMI port to hook up to your flat-screen TV, and two USB ports to hook up any USB controller from classic consoles and modern, alike. Finally, the RetroEngine Sigma promises the capability to emulate up to 28 – read ’em – consoles, not games. This means that being able to take a trip down memory lane to even your most obscure, favorite retro titles is a very big possibility. The console also promises to support 4K media, which means you can utilize the RetroEngine Sigma as a home media device for all of your high-quality movies and television shows.

This pint-sized rival to the NES Classic edition is currently running a campaign on Indiegogo, with a month to go before the timer runs out. Unfortunately, this means we won’t be seeing this item on shelves or available for online purchase in time for the holidays, but don’t let that deter you from checking it out. In the meantime, check out the trailer to see what comes packed in this incredible looking console, courtesy of Doyodo Team:

The RetroEngine Sigma sounds like a truly universal piece of equipment, but will it hold up to the hype and stellar expectations it has set for itself? The developers have only just accomplished their crowd funding goal, and with that, we know it will be awhile before we see the product on shelves. The plus side is, even if the console only delivers half of what it promises, it still looks like it’s going to be a great gift idea for the next holiday season. The only possible downside to this? We won’t have a way to know if the cheat codes available on the NES Classic will work on the RetroEngine Sigma for quite some time, so be prepared for good old-fashioned hard work to beat those difficult levels!

What do you think of the newest, tiny console? Will you donate to the crowd funding campaign to help make the RetroEngine Sigma the very best it can be?
