Reggie Fils-Aime To Host New York Game Awards 2021
The gaming industry has been around for several decades now, long enough to have veteran industry icons that continue to lead even after their retirement. One such figure is Reggie Fils-Aime, who served for many years as the Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America and announced his retirement from the company last year. Since that time, though, Fils-Aime has continued to lead newer members of the gaming world by appearing at events like The Game Awards and becoming a member of the New York Videogame Critics Circle. Continuing his work with the Critics Circle, Reggie Fils-Aime is now set to host the New York Game Awards in 2021.
The New York Videogame Critics Circle has announced the date for the NY Game Awards 2021 event on their official website. The event, which will, of course, be an online-only event due to the coronavirus pandemic, will be co-hosted by both Reggie Fils-Aime, as well as New York Videogame Critics Circle founder and board president, Harold Goldberg. Fils-Aime had this to say about his hosting duties for the event:
Last year when I joined the New York Videogame Critics Circle as a board member, I never imagined we’d have to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the New York Game Awards only virtually. But we won’t let challenging times take away the opportunity to celebrate 10 years of honoring the best in gaming and acknowledging the Circle’s important mentoring work in underserved communities. We have a stellar line-up of gaming industry greats that will be sure to wow nostalgic gaming fans and new gamers alike. And we will honor the best of gaming from 2020. This will be a ‘must watch’ event.”
The event going all digital for the tenth anniversary, while unexpected, still presents some potential positives. Founder Goldberg suggests that the all-online show might allow for many special guests to attend, with a big announcement for the Andrew Yoon Legend Award coming in the near future. The New York Game Awards 2021 will stream live on January 26th next year, with an announcement for which site will be hosting the livestream coming close to that date. With Reggie Fils-Aime hosting, needless to say, our bodies are ready to watch.
