New Reports Indicate Possible Red Dead Redemption 2 Cross-Play for Consoles

Arguably one of the biggest announcements to have hit in the last 12 months was revelation from Rockstar of another Red Dead Redemption title. The open-world western was a huge hit with its player-base, so when a sequel was announced – gamers world-wide collectively lost their minds. With a lot of controversy surrounding the implementation of cross-play between the major camps in the industry, the question was bound to come up for the next in line for RDR2. According to multiple sources, Red Dead Redemption 2 cross-play may not be out of the question.

Though there was the predictable silence from Rockstar at this year’s E3, that didn’t stop the upcoming title from being the topic of conversation. According to CB, there are quite a few reliable sources coming forward with the information that the company behind the western is very interested in the cross-play aspect for RDR2’s multiplayer. This isn’t the first time fans have heard of this interest, but with more and more sources coming forward – many of which with impeccable track records of providing inside information – it is interesting to speculate on if this will actually be included within the game.

GTA Forums

The talk about Red Dead Redemption 2 cross-play is all pure speculation at this point, as with any new information that surfaces without direct confirmation from the developers themselves. The timing itself is interesting to note, however, because both Sony and Microsoft have been back and forth about the growing interest in this capability between platforms. Whereas Xbox has repeatedly gone on record in the past few years stating their interest in cross-play, Sony has been a little more resistant to the idea. And by a little, we mean a lot.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the franchise as more announcements make themselves known closer to launch. Red Dead Redemption 2 cross-play aside, the title itself is set to launch sometime in Spring 2018 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
