Ever wanted to wreck everything, but lack the gorilla-like strength to do so? Video games to the rescue once again! A demo has just gone live on Steam for the indie game Ape Out where players take control of a gorilla that is long past tired of being locked up. Players must make their way out of a maze-like building to freedom, all while violently running through the captors that wish to stop the escape. You can check out the action for yourself in the trailer below:

Ape Out shows off a textured minimalist art style that is made more vibrant when Mr. Gorilla goes ape on enemy characters and defeated foes are then represented by colorful splats. Players can employ weapons in their escape, either by taking them from humans or finding objects lying around and presumably swinging them about. The chaotic gameplay is emphasized by the jazzy, percussion-heavy soundtrack that moves the action along surprisingly well.

Ape Out is scheduled to come out in Summer 2017 by developer Gabe Cuzzillo. The released demo is dubbed as a “playable trailer ” that publisher Devolver Digital goes as far to call “the best playable trailer ever made” in it’s Steam review.
