Rage 2 Will Be Single Player Only, Promises Tons Of Post-Launch Content
Many of Bethesda’s upcoming titles are going to feature some kind of multiplayer. Fallout 76 will feature a vast open world in which players can interact with each other whether through peaceful means or maybe even destructive, nuclear ones. Wolfenstein: Young Blood will feature co-op and even DOOM Eternal will feature a multiplayer element which will allow fans to invade other players’ worlds as demons. Rage 2 however will be exclusively single-player, though you shouldn’t consider that a bad thing.
In a recent interview, id Software’s Studio Director Tim Willits explained that the game will strictly be a single-player experience. However the developers hope to maintain the title with a variety of post launch content, updates, and DLC that will hopefully keep players involved for quite some time.
We feel that we are offering many hours of game for the money, but we also want to have a longer tail on the game. We’ll have some free updates. And we’ll have paid updates. We have some community things too, so you can kind of feel that you’re part of a community. And we’ll talk about those later. But our focus is single player.”
The community aspect sounds interesting as it might lend itself to something seen in titles such as Far Cry 5, though at this point it’s all speculation. It’s possible that maybe later down the road the developers might be interested in looking at some other kind of direct multiplayer, however for now it seems players will need to be content with enjoying the mayhem on their own.
Rage 2 holds a tentative release sometime in the early summer of next year. What are you most excited to see from the chaotic first-person shooter? Will the title be able to hold its own against the tide of multiplayer titles arriving in the next couple of years?
