PUBG Developer Responds to Controversial ‘Stream Sniping’ Ban

PUBG dev responds to controversial stream sniping ban

‘Stream Sniping’ is shaping up to be a more modernized version of screen watching; A player watches another player’s screen and uses the unfair advantage to defeat them.  Stream sniping takes this idea and brings it to Twitch, where a player will hunt down a streamer by following their live Twitch feed in order to locate them within the game and kill them.  This very thing happened to popular Twitch streamers Summit1G and Shroud, who were playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds together when they started getting killed multiple times by other players, one of them being named Lotoe.

When Lotoe killed Shroud after Summit1G was taken out in-game, Lotoe was kicked from the match, receiving a message from the game telling him that he had been suspended from playing PUBG.  According to Lotoe, though, he is completely innocent.  In a statement made to Polygon, Lotoe claimed that he doesn’t watch Twitch, and that he “just got caught up in the crossfire” and ended up getting banned for it.

The only way people are saying I was stream sniping them was because the devs surely banned with evidence, but in reality they banned me within 1-20 minutes.  I don’t see how they could of [sic] received reports and investigated the case in that amount of time.”

Shorty after the ban took place, the PlayerUnknown’s Battleground’s subreddit exploded with opinions from both sides of the community; one side condemning Lotoe’s actions, and the other claiming that he is innocent.  The former side has argued that Lotoe actually has a history of tracking down Summit and Shroud, while the latter side says that it would be impossible to definitively say whether or not he was actually stream sniping.  In response to the outcries from the divided community, Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene submitted his official take on the Lotoe situation via his Twitter, confirming that the developer had enough evidence against the player to warrant the ban.
