PS4 Crossplay Confirmed, Sony To Begin Beta Soon With Fortnite
The idea of multiplayer across all available platforms has only been a fantasy in recent years, with popular games such as Rocket League and Fortnite providing near-versions of this competitive utopia to all but one console: PlayStation 4. While everyone else has been poised to play together Sony has time and again excluded themselves from the fun, leaving players clamoring to have it happen sometime down the line. Well it seems that that time is now, with Sony’s announcement that PS4 crossplay will finally become a reality.
Sony has revealed that PS4 crossplay will begin its beta with Fortnite today, the eve of the battle royale game’s commencement of season 6. This will bring together the title’s supported PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac platforms under one battle royale roof, with “gameplay, progression and commerce” all compatible with one another.
The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.”

Fortnite is set to be the beginning as of right now, with further updates planning to roll out the feature to other games as well as improve the experience for everyone. Specifics such as the beta timeframe and more detailed information regarding PS4 crossplay are confirmed to be revealed at a later date. For many, it’s likely time to drop back into Fortnite with each of our gaming brethren.
