TV Show Preacher Producers Tease Hitler’s “Other Sides” Yet to Be Seen
AMC’s television series Preacher introduced a new character Hitler in season 2 and it has to be the nicest interpretation of the historically genocidal, German politician in history. In fact, the show made some viewers feel bad for this version of him in Hell. According to executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, it won’t be staying that way for long. In fact, “Hitler’s got a Hitler side”. Given who we’re talking about here, it’s not a surprise. In the last episode starring the character’s actor Noah Taylor, he was getting beaten to a bloody pulp for his lack of the authoritarian attitude.
During an interview at Film Independent in the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) for the screening of Preacher, Goldberg explained the reason behind the infamous German ruler’s introduction to the show:
It’s something that I’ve been obsessed with for a long time, that we kept discussing and it slowly became something that was hard to resist. Hitler’s been there for like 70 years–what would he have realized in 70 years? We think that one thing he would come to see is that many of the things he did in fact were heinous. And over 70 years in Hell, with all the people still coming down to Hell, if he could talk to them, maybe he’d have a different perspective than you’d expect.
Rogen added: “If there’s one show that could do that, I guess it’s this one so we might as well do it.” In fact, there are “other sides” to this character that fans have yet to see. Even so, the producers still aim to be as accurate to the Preacher books as possible and maintain focus on the core characters. What do you think of the introduction of Hitler to this AMC series?
