Randy Pitchford Shows off Borderlands 3 Tech and Potential Art at GDC (PHOTOS)
It’s been eight years since Borderlands hopped onto the scene as the action role-playing first-person shooter that we have all come to love. Scouring the skag filled planet in search of shinier weapons, bigger explosions, and defeating anyone or anything that aims to stop you has become a way of life for players since the early days of our Pandora experience. With two main titles, the pre-sequel, a 5-episode series from Telltale Games, and a mobile game, Gearbox Software has a nice little franchise on their hands. Next in line to join the series is the highly anticipated Borderlands 3, and Randy Pitchford may have teased fans a bit at this year’s Game Developers Conference(GDC).
In a presentation to show off Unreal Engine 4, the software that they are using to create Borderlands 3, a familiar art style was evident. While Pitchford constantly made it known that the art shown was not from the upcoming title, fans can’t help but speculate. We need Borderlands 3, and we need it now! Or, whenever it’s done… that’s also cool. You can scope out the art in the gallery below:
In the video, Randy goes into the depth about how they are using Unreal Engine 4 to ensure Borderlands 3 is as beautiful as it can be. He shows how the shading and highlights work within the engine to give everything a more realistic look and feel. They are able to do this while remaining true to the art style fans of the series have come to love. You can check out the clip here.
