Peter Moore Gives His Final Farewell to the Gaming Industry (VIDEO)
“I shall miss everything about this industry each day, henceforth.”
Peter Moore, an gaming exec known for his position as President of SEGA of America ( which involved a big “F*** You’) and head of EA Sports, has officially made his graceful exit from the gaming industry to focus on his newest passion: taking over as the CEO of Liverpool Football Club. He made the announcement months ago and no all of his hard work has come to a head as he makes his final bow in a farewell letter of gratitude.
“From the advent of online gaming (albeit via a 56K modem), to the ‘console wars,’ and now to games as 365 days a year, live experiences, I have been fortunate to have borne witness to the amazing growth of this, our wonderful gaming industry.”
Moore not only gave the gaming community the accolades it deserves with its many talented individuals that make the market it is today, but he also talks about his own work and humbly plays down his role to the creative collective:
“I am crystal clear in understanding that I was merely the front man for your brilliant achievements, the ‘suit’ that sometimes did goofy, cheesy stunts and speeches to draw attention to your phenomenally creative talent.”
One thing that fans and those who work in this industry could always appreciate about Moore is his ability to be professional, but not shy away from veering away the scripts that are often the ground work for public relations. He wasn’t afraid to be goofy, or to be real. Many in the industry have called Moore a “cheerleader” to the creative minds that continue to pump out amazing stories and fantastic experiences in the video game medium.
Another thing Moore mentioned in his letter was a plea to the fans of games. With the gaming market making huge, sometimes controversial, changes, the rise of critique is at an all-time high due to the accessibility of social media. With that being the case, often times the feedback crosses the line from constructive criticism to down-right vile hatred – sometimes even involving things as expressive as death threats to members of the industry. Moore urges gamers to take a step back and be a part of the process in a productive way:
“If a game disappoints, provide constructive feedback, not the vitriol that is unfortunately so prevalent nowadays.”
