Unaltered Original Star Wars Trilogy Rumored to Release This Year
The website Making Star Wars says that they “firmly believe the unaltered original edits of the 1977, 1980, and 1983 cuts of the original Star Wars Trilogy will officially be re-released soon”. The site reports that it will most likely be released for the 40th anniversary in various formats. This is not even close to the first time someone has started a rumor about the original trilogy being re-released in theaters, but this guy seems pretty sure that it’s going to happen this year.
“Every time there is a rainy day, a slow news week, or a Star Wars drought, a rumor starts to go around that the unaltered version of the Star Wars Trilogy will be re-released. I generally have it as a policy that we don’t run those rumors because they are generally wrong. However, over the last month the evidence and tips have been piling up that the unaltered original trilogy will be re-released this year for the 40th anniversary in various formats. Several sources have let us know it was coming and it appears to actually be on the way this time.”
Rogue One Director Gareth Edwards said a couple months ago that he watched a 4k restoration of Star Wars: A New Hope, which tells us that there are copies out there. Now we just need to wait and see if Lucusfilm will confirm it at the Star Wars Celebration that’s happening next month. When we get down to it though, it’s just a rumor like all the other ones in the past. It would be great if there is some truth to it and fans will squeal with joy once it’s confirmed, but until then don’t get your hopes up too high.
