No Man’s Sky Confirms Multiplayer Mode, Xbox One Release Date Announced

The leak provided earlier this week proved to be true after all. Though it was no secret that No Man’s Sky was preparing itself for an Xbox One release, much of its additional content remained a mystery. However, thanks to Twitter user Peaceful Gamer, the art was revealed right before the official announcement took place, confirming the leak and the juicy bits on a possible multiplayer mode. Turns out, the latter was true as well.

In order to bring this brand new experience for Xbox One owners, the developers have been testing out the multiplayer mode for the past six months. It sounds like they’re dedicated to the craft. Sean Murray, Hello Games co-founder and programmer, stated:

We’ve been playtesting multiplayer for the last six months, and the game has evolved into a very new experience that we think the community will enjoy.

For example, you’ll be able to explore the universe with your friends, or bump into random travelers. You can help friends to stay alive, or prey on others to survive. Tiny shelters or complex colonies that you build as a team are shared for all players. Fight as a pirate or a wingman in epic space battles with friends and enemies. Race exocraft across weird alien terrains, creating race tracks and trails to share online.”

Of course, this news arrives alongside information on their “biggest update yet”. In fact, Murray reveals how “incredibly important” this opportunity is for the studio and it is “just another step in a longer journey, and we’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.” Very little has been shared thus far on its contents, but if those words are to be taken seriously – it’s nothing short of exciting. We can’t wait to see what Hello Games brings to the table this Summer.

The Xbox One version of No Man’s Sky is scheduled for release Tuesday, July 24th, 2018, alongsde the titled “NEXT” update will arrive simultaneously on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
