According to GameStop, the launch of the Nintendo Switch console has been one of the “strongest and most successful gaming console launches” for the company in years. Many doubted the success of another generation of Nintendo, considering the flop in Wii U sales since it’s debut. Conversely, DFC Intelligence (Digital Future Consulting & Intelligence) predicted great success for the company and the console itself, estimating a sum of 40 million units sold by the year 2020. Taking into account the sales for Microsoft for comparison, which sold less than 30 million units in about 4 years, it seemed like an absolutely ridiculous number. Despite that, DFC Intelligence believed it to be a “conservative forecast”.

Senior Director of Merchandising for GameStop, Eric Bright, shared the positive news during an interview with GameRant:

Stores across the country last night were packed with customers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the brand new Nintendo Switch.  We even had customers lining up as early as yesterday morning so that they could be one of the lucky ones to score one of the additional units for our walk-in customers. This is one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years.”

Is it possible this will continue as a trend? Regardless, if you’re worried about getting your hands on a personal Nintendo Switch console at GameStop – fear not! Bright mentioned that more shipments will be coming in soon since the demand continues and rises. Of course, other retailers currently share similar stories with sold out stock, including online availability at Best Buy and Fry’s Electronics. This will most certainly change too.
