Nintendo Says They Actually “Dramatically Over-Delivered” Switch Units at Launch
As many fans have come to realize, the Nintendo Switch is kind of a rare commodity, since they usually sell out the second retailers get their hands on them. Players have been scrounging the stores and internet trying to grab one for themselves and most are asking why Nintendo didn’t just make more Switch units at the start. Seems logical, but according to Nintendo, the company already delivered more than expected.
In a recent interview, the President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime said that even though it seems they didn’t make enough Switch units, the company actually had 2 millions consoles ready for launch, despite analysts stating that demand would be much lower.
We actually sold through almost 2.8 million units, so we dramatically over delivered. So what do some of the consumers on Reddit say? ‘Gosh, Nintendo, if you would’ve made more you would’ve sold more.’ Well, we did make more! And certainly we’re on a pace to supply in the current fiscal year 10 million units.”
Although the President seems positive about the situation, he also said before that they might not be able to make the Holiday demand for Switch units this year and that is their main objective at this time. This isn’t the first Nintendo console to have a supply and demand problem. The company had the same issues with the NES Classic Edition, before it was discontinued and some fans are even worried about the same for the SNES Classic. However, Nintendo says they have “dramatically increased” the production of that console before its launch on September 29th.
