New NieR Replicant Trailer Teases Automata Characters, Extra ‘Mermaid’ Episode (VIDEO)
With the release of the highly anticipated NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 just a few days away, Square Enix has revealed a brand new trailer for the game showing off all the ‘Extra Content’ fans will be able to partake in from the upgraded version of the original 2010 Japanese title. DLC was more or less expected given the overarching popularity of the NieR franchise, though Square Enix seems to have outdone themselves with the reveal that NieR Replicant will be getting loads of DLC that pull content from other games in the series.
As revealed in today’s trailer, NieR Replicant is getting multiple DLC packs that will enhance the player’s experience, particularly for those that have played NieR Gestalt and NieR: Automata. The first pack revealed is “15 Nightmares” which introduces the challenge dungeons that were also included in the original game, as well as the “Samurai” and “Kabuki” costume sets. These challenge dungeons are playable as the protagonist from NieR Gestalt (aka Papa NieR). It’s unknown at this time whether the main game’s protagonist can also partake in the dungeons or if it’s a Gestalt-specific challenge.
Jumping into the future of the series, the NieR: Automata DLC is called “4 YoRHa” pack, and it brings with it various weapons and outfits that can be used to make Kaine look like our beloved androids 2B and A2. There is also an outfit that looks like 9S, so the YoRHa Boys aren’t completely left out. According to the trailer there is a ‘guest cast’ featuring the original voices of 2B and 9S, though how that’ll factor into the game is unknown at this time. Rounding things out on the Automata side is the inclusion of the game’s soundtrack, which can be used instead of Replicant’s background music.
Last but not least, NieR Replicant will also sport an extra episode called Mermaid. The episode involves a coastal shipwreck and a boss fight with what appears to be a massive tentacled monster which the trailer refers to as being an “invincible and mighty shade,” so that’s exciting.
NieR Replicant is slated to release on April 23, 2021 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
