Producer Yosuke Saito Confirms Next Nier Title Has Begun Development

Next Nier Title

Nier: Automata was released earlier this year for PC and PlayStation 4. The follow-up to 2010’s Nier, the sequel received praise for its storytelling and approach to combat. The game has been considered a success, even surpassing the expectations of Square-Enix, the company admitted back in September. That being said, many have wondered what the future holds for the franchise and if the next Nier title will be on the way soon.

In an upcoming issue of Japanese gaming magazine Dengeki PlayStation, producer Yosuke Saito was asked if there was any new information regarding the next Nier title. Following the recruitment page seeking a scenario writer that was posted by Square-Enix back in September, Saito stated, “Well, when it comes to a game, we’re making preparations in earnest for the setting, which you could probably have guessed due to the fact that we were recruiting a scenario planner.” When asked if Yoko Taro is part of the development, he had the following to say:

He is… At least, I’d like to believe so (laughs). Taro-san says he will do anything as long as he gets paid for it, but there is no one else I know who doesn’t move for money as much as that man. He only wants to do whatever he wants to do. So I’ll try my best to explicitly say what he doesn’t want to do to guide him towards what I want to do (laughs).”

No word has been given as to whether or not Platinum Games will be joining this time around, but with the success of Automata, it’s hard to imagine that they wouldn’t want to. This, of course, all depends on which direction those in charge intend on taking the next Nier title. No matter what, gamers are sure to be pleased that another entry has been confirmed.
