New Prey Trailer Shows off the Power of Being a Banana in Space (VIDEO)

New Prey Trailer

Prey has been on many gamers’ radars for quite some time. With the fact that it’s supposed to be “flawless” by launch, the sequel-turned-reboot is surely raising the hopes of fans everywhere. The title will feature glorious space battles with aliens, fancy weapons and abilities, and you in the center of it all. Recently, Bethesda Softworks released a new Prey trailer on their YouTube channel, and it showcases what might be the best ability there is in the game – Mimic Matter. Here’s what Bethesda’s global content lead Gary Steinman has to say:

One of the first powers you’ll learn is Mimic Matter. Acquired from the diminutive (and aptly named) Mimic Typhon, this power allows you to take the form of just about any appropriately sized object aboard Talos I. You’ll start small – a coffee mug, a teapot, a lamp, a banana – but as you level up this ability, you’ll soon be able to mimic more complex objects, including an impressive array of security turrets and Operator robots.”

In the new Prey trailer, we see Mimic Matter in all of its glory. Have you ever felt the need to be a banana in space? Mimic Matter is for you. Rolling around the Talos I as a roll of toilet paper while bypassing the enemy looks like a load of fun. Did a Typhon spot you? No problem! Use your fantastic ability to mimic an object and roll away! Like Steinman said above, the more you advance the ability, the more things you’ll be able to mimic. Pesky turret giving you troubles? Show it the business end of your mimic powers!

Quite frankly, Prey looks like it’s going to be one hell of a ride. If it’s anything like the original, we’re all in for a treat. Hopefully, Mimic Matter never loses its usefulness or novelty. Somebody on the Prey team doesn’t seem to think it will. According to Steinman, Lead Producer Susan Kath said, “The ability to look around a room, to activate the mimic power and then choose what object I want to turn into never ceases to delight me. There are just so many different things that you can mimic.” Prey will be released on May 5 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It is being developed by Arkane Studios and you can check out the new trailer below:
