New Kingdom Hearts III Gameplay Footage Coming With Next Trailer
At this point, waiting for Kingdom Hearts III (KH3) is like what 80’s and 90’s kids felt when ordering a decoder ring from the back advertisement of a comic book. It’s seemingly taking forever. Although it was only announced four years ago, it seems much longer than that for those anticipating the release. In the meantime, we will take whatever Square Enix will give us when it comes to the elusive third entry into the series’ continuity. While there still isn’t any confirmed release date to look forward to, the last trailer (which is apparently a teaser trailer for a trailer) gave us another time frame to look forward to. At Disney’s D23 Expo, a new video will be released that will include much more Kingdom Hearts III gameplay footage.
There are so many questions revolving around the forthcoming title that fans are dying to get answers for. As to be expected, we must wait…and wait some more. Fortunately, KH3 director Tetsuya Nomura sat down for an interview with Famitsu to discuss a little about what fans can expect at this year’s D23.
The release of the last trailer coincided with the end of a Kingdom Hearts Orchestra concert, which also happened to be during the festivities of E3. Square Enix used the opportunity for the announcement wisely, as Nomura stated during the interview:
The choice to show or not to show something is up to the ones making the conferences. We just used the timing of the concert at the same time as E3 to announce it.”
The trailer shown happened to only include Kingdom Hearts III gameplay and scenes that take place in the Hercules world. According to Tetsuya Nomura, that was just a small portion of what’s included in the game. The director stated that there will actually be two trailers at D23, but there’s a catch:
[The trailer] will have a Japanese version and a North American version but the battle scenes were from an actual gameplay footage, so we couldn’t make them exactly the same. It will look the same but if you compare them you will be able to see the differences. So I would like the core fans to look at both trailers.”
The last trailer gave us around two and a half minutes of pure joy and excitement. According to the director, however, that may not be the case for the upcoming preview next month, as it may be longer and more revealing:
The editing of the D23 trailer is being finalized right now, but I think that not only it will be longer than the orchestra trailer, it will also show some new elements that should meet everyone’s expectations.”
Let’s be honest, our only real expectation at this point is a solid release date which is probably not going to happen at D23 next month (July 14-16). Realistically, his statement could mean that fans will maybe get a glimpse of some of the new worlds. The safest bet, however, is more detailed Kingdom Hearts III gameplay. Either way, we’ll take what we can get.
KH3 will be releasing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles sometime in the future. Are you excited for a new full trailer?
