Mortal Kombat Movie Filming Wraps, Teases Liu Kang Fireball (VIDEO)

The upcoming Mortal Kombat movie has been breezing through filming since it all began back in September, the production sporting an impressive creative team and an exciting cast of actors that aim to bring many of the franchise’s most iconic fighters to life. While little has been shown of the actual shoot, there has been no shortage of behind-the-scenes images and intriguing plot teases released over social media. It appears the Mortal Kombat movie has now reached a new milestone, with cast and crew officially calling a wrap on the project’s filming.

Writer Greg Russo first declared the end of filming over Twitter, congratulating and showing gratitude to all who worked on the film. From here, several other members of the cast also offered their well-wishes in celebration of the wrap, including actor Ludi Lin, who portrays the role of Liu Kang in the new Mortal Kombat. A post from the martial artist/actor expressed excitement that his filming was complete, teasing his appearance through an obscured image of Liu Kang seemingly firing up one of the character’s classic fireballs. Check out the two aforementioned tweets below.

As filming ends, post-production is sure to be hot on its heels. It’s during this phase where fans will likely see our first look at the movie, but it’s still up in the air when exactly this might happen. As the fiery Liu Kang image suggests, there’s likely to be quite the array of special effects still to be implemented, especially in a film featuring the likes of the ice-powered Sub Zero, fire-spewing Scorpion, and the soul-stealing Shang Tsung. Of course, there’s also the movie’s endlessly-violent Fatalities that are sure to be a gruesome showstopper.

In addition to the posts above, several other members of the Mortal Kombat movie were similarly enthusiastic about the production’s end milestone, including actors Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), and Lewis Tan, who each took to their own separate stretches of social media. Each also expressed respect for the months-long Australia shoot, their fellow actors, as well as the rest of the “kast and krew.”

Picture wrap on Mortal Kombat! This will take awhile to process before I can put the feelings into words accurately, for now I’m depleted, physically and emotionally, I’m delighted and exhilarated, that is how it should feel at the end, give everything for the art. Risk it all. We made something truly special here. I’m proud. The filmmakers and crew were top of their class and beyond professional. Australia delivered unique and breathtaking landscapes. The cast have created a family and bond that will last forever. Thank you @simonmcquoid for your trust and guidance, you are the embodiment of a leader. Lastly, my inspiration. My niece was born with rare a lung disease when she was 3, doctors said she wouldn’t make it, she fought through unthinkable circumstances and impossible odds just to survive. A true warrior. Shes 15 now. This year when I turned down 3 films and 2 TV shows to spend months reading for a huge film that eventually wasn’t for me, she was there texting me support daily, now she sittin in my chair watching me perform as I lead my first studio picture. Never. Ever. Give. Up. #MortalKombatMovie #MortalKombat
