Mortal Kombat 11 Introduces Two New Characters (VIDEO)

Earlier today saw the hype of many fans fulfilled as NetherRealm Studios unleashed a bevy of exciting and decidedly gruesome details about their upcoming fighting game Mortal Kombat 11. As head honcho Ed Boon announced in a recent community event, all the anticipation was pretty warranted, the title delivering a glorious showcase of cracking gameplay, a peek at the sweeping storyline, and the return of some crowd-pleasing familiar faces (one confirmed to be Ronda Rousey, no less).

However, the epic event also included the introduction of a number of characters, each debuting as part of Mortal Kombat 11’s brutal new narrative. We first got a look at Geras, a formidable new fighter sporting some spiffy gold armor as well as a pair of bright glowing eyes. He boasts the unique ability to control sand as well as the properties of time, the character able to utilize the two powers in quite a few creative ways. Plenty of these were put on display in Geras’ reveal trailer, which can be viewed below.

The second of these new fighters was a much more mysterious figure named Kronika. Following her obscured appearance in the newly-premiered story prologue, Ed Boon shared a bit more about the time-chronicling trickstress, namely teasing the role she’ll play in the game’s upcoming events. She apparently has the power bend time to her will, Boon confirming the MK11 roster may come to blows with a lineup of their younger selves. The tidbit was shared during the MK event livestream (around the 51:46 mark), which can be viewed below.

Whether all this time-manipulating mumbo-jumbo may introduce alternate timelines or even bring dead fighters back to life still remains to be seen, but both scenarios definitely seem possible. Regardless if either might be true, it’s doubtful NetherRealm would care to share such surprises so publically, likely relegating information about these kind of buzzworthy moments to the final release.

What NetherRealm would surely enjoy players knowing about is the game’s stunning Kollector’s Edition, which features slick premium packaging as well as a glorious statue of Scorpion’s legendary armor. That, along with the base game of Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 23rd.
