Microsoft Confirms “Big Exclusive Game” In Development, Could It Be Fable 4?
During Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference, Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke during a segment about studios bought up by Microsoft to develop projects exclusively for them. One of those studios was Playground Games where Spencer offered this small anecdote as they worked on the next entry within the Forza Horizon series. However, there’s another game on everyone’s minds since rumors of Fable 4 emerged earlier this year and information on industry veterans joining the cause emerged not long ago.
While no other details were offered, all signs pointed to this project being Fable 4. Sources inside Microsoft said Playground Games was staffing up to 200 employees to work on the reboot to the beloved RPG franchise. Then the fine folks at Dualshockers interviewed Xbox Marketing general manager Aaron Greenberg at Gamescom 2018 and spoke a little bit more about this top secret game.
While it’s a secret project and I understand that you and probably all gamers out there [sic] the thing they want to know most about, we just ask for a little bit of patience, but know that making sure our world-class team is working on a big, big exclusive game for our fans, is something they should be excited about.”
When asked if the game was a “fabulous project”, Greenberg offered small extra tidbit saying:
We know that the team is gonna do something that’s really special, and for us we wanna be thoughtful about when we reveal what that is, but they have a second team there, it’s extra capacity, and we think that when the time is right, and the team is ready, fans will be excited about what we have to share.”
Greenberg dodges the line of questioning well here, but it’s a tease that is pretty easy to pick up on when taken into the context of what we’ve heard regarding Fable in recent news. Usually game marketing folk would straight up deny a reboot of an older IP if asked about it, so Xbox seems to be playing coy here.
Regardless, it’s nice to see Microsoft focusing on delivering high quality and numerous first-party titles like those found on PlayStation 4. Are you ready for a Fable 4 game?
