Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer Will Feature Missions, Loot Boxes, and More!

Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer

We are now nearly two weeks out from the highly anticipated release of Mass Effect: Andromeda. With the launch drawing closer, more details are beginning to surface about the action RPG that give fans a better look at what’s to come. Recently, producer Fernando Melo took to Twitter to share an image that provides us with a gander at a few features regarding Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer and its link to the single player experience – missions, rewards, and loot boxes!

Fans were a bit disappointed when the beta tech test was cancelled, but that didn’t stop the Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer dev team from continually kicking ass. March 5 was the “5th day of MP-mas” and Melo bequeathed unto us a look at Missions, the link between multiplayer and single player. You will be able to play and earn rewards in both modes, and even acquire loot boxes that contain, well… presumably, glorious loot! You will see said boxes under the “Pathfinder Rewards” section in the image. This content, according to Melo, will be rewards that “you can get to help your pathfinder in SP.”

Naturally, questions began to flood in after the tweet was posted. Fernando did his best to answer them while still keeping things a bit secretive. However, he did spill a few of the beans. Not the whole can, but enough to sustain until the next reveal. After a fan asked if “we have to play MP to earn things on SP,” Melo replied, “it is completely optional,” and that “we def designed it so its a nice perk for anyone that splits time on both, but will not penalize sp only players.” This, of course, is great because some players don’t like the multiplayer atmosphere and would rather go it alone.

After sending out the tweet, a familiar face responded with another detail about the upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda multiplayer. Lead designer Ian S. Frazier disclosed that you would be able to “Send AI strike teams on these missions to earn SP rewards, or play them yourself in MP to earn both SP *and* MP rewards!” Okay, that’s pretty neat. Especially for those limited on time. Melo replied, “We’ll cover that ‘soon’ also.”

There’s no telling what exactly these loot boxes are going to contain, but we can assume the contents will be of use in single player. Luckily, they will be earned rather than purchased through micro-transactions. According to Melo, there are “no mtx in sp.” This will be good because you’ll probably have to start asking for weekends off of work to enjoy the events taking place. Mass Effect: Andromeda releases on March 21 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
