Live-Action Naruto Movie Coming to the Big Screen

The Japanese magazine named Shonen Jump has revealed a live-action Naruto movie is in the works. Shonen Jump was where the manga series was published weekly and according to their Twitter, Lionsgate will be in charge of the upcoming movie and Michael Gracey will be directing it.

Gracey has never directed a movie before, but he was the Visual Effects Supervisor on the 2005 film, The Magician. Naruto series creator, Masashi Kishimoto is said to be involved with the movie which is still in pre-production with no clue as to a release date yet.

Naruto is a Japanese manga about a young ninja named Naruto Uzumaki who is always looking for recognition. He hopes to become the leader of his village. The manga series was featured in Shonen Jump magazine from 1999 until 2014. It was later turned into a TV series which lasted 220 episodes and then a sequel called Naruto: Shippuden began in 2007 and is still going strong. There have been 11 movies before, all animated, but this will be the first live-action film. As of October of last year the Naruto manga has sold over 220 million copies worldwide which makes it the 4th best selling manga series in history.
