League of Legends Celebrates New Season With Stunning Cinematic (VIDEO)

With the arrival of 2019, so to comes a brand new ranked season in League of Legends, and Riot Games is celebrating in style by releasing an absolutely beautiful cinematic trailer commemorating the season’s launch. Titled ‘Awaken,’ the cinematic contains vocals by Valerie Broussard and string music by violinist Ray Chen, and bounces between three distinctly different stories all over Runeterra. Check it out below:

The video opens with Jhin sitting down at a piano (because of course it does), before shifting over to Draven watching over a gladiator event. Then, it transitions over to Irelia preparing to defend a village from an army led by the unstoppable monstrosity that is Sion. At this point the video shifts back and forth between each setting, introducing familiar champions that shake up each scenario. As with many of the past League of Legends videos, the cinematic features epic music over some stellar visuals that truly brings many of these champions to life.

Accompanying the video is the reveal of what’s to come in the ranked 2019 season of League of Legends. Per the developer, placement games will give players a provisional rank after their very first match. From there, players will earn accelerated LP for each win, and promotional matches are skipped during their 10 provisional games. League players can also look forward to a new reward system, one that features three ‘splits’ that gives out rewards at the end of said split.

The League of Legends ranked season begins on January 24.
