Latest Overwatch Patch Shutting Down Dataminers While Also Buffing 2 Heroes

Overwatch dataminers have been making the people of Blizzard’s lives hell recently by finding and releasing information before the team is ready to make their announcements. They have released private info on future aspects of the game like the Uprising event and even the upcoming return of the Summer Games event that includes the dearly missed Lucio Ball. This is nothing new with the industry, however it seems that Blizzard might finally be putting a stop to the dataminers though with their latest Overwatch patch for the PTR.

The latest Overwatch patch is a lot bigger than previous patches, at around 5GB, and Bill Warnecke, the game’s lead software engineer, explained that its because of significant changes to the title’s file formatting. He was not specific about why these changes are happening, though these alterations implemented within the code do make it much harder to datamine unannounced info.

Along with the possible datamine protection, the new Overwatch patch will buff the two most lovable of outlaws: Junkrat and Roadhog. There haven’t been too many specifics about the buffs given, but designer Geoff Goodman did give an outline of what’s to come,

Junkrat: “Currently on our internal builds Junkrat has 2 charges of his Concussion Mine. This allows you to do all kinds of cool stuff like launch yourself into a fight and still have a charge to escape with, or launch yourself up into a Pharah and still have a charge to try and kill her with. We’re also looking at making his ult a bit better. We’re experimenting with a movement speed increase or a health increase on the tire. We wouldn’t do both things but in either case it should be more reliable to use in more situations.”

Roadhog: “Currently we have been play testing Roadhog with -50% damage taken while using Take a Breather, and also allowing him to move at full speed while inhaling. These two changes combined certainly make him significantly more difficult to kill, while also allowing Roadhog players to be much more aggressive when trying to find a hook target, knowing they can survive a lot more easily.”
