Konami May Remaster More Classic Games – “It’s All About Fan Demand”
A remaster of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner – Mars is deep in development as a remastered edition of the classic title from Hideo Kojima. This mecha third-person shooter brings back features of pilot simulation with virtual reality support and action-packed combat sequences, which was originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2003. Even though they’ve got a lot of work to catch up on to transition the game with a modern touch, Konami may have more remasters in mind for the future, but “it’s all about fan demand”.
According to an interview with IGN, Konami brand manager Benjamin Kinney sees the possibility of more remastered games in the future as long as fans are “telling us what they want, we’re going to keep listening”. Furthermore, the question relies on the overall interest from the community and that means none of their series are off limits. Kinney elaborates:
I think that kind of going back to what I was saying about other sequels and other possible spin-offs – it’s about fan demand and fan reaction. You can always have hope right? It doesn’t matter who you are, we saw Ridley get into [Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]. You can have hope in anything you want to do, right? Eventually, if you’re loud enough and you speak with one voice, anything is possible.”
That certainly offers a grain of anticipation and “hope” for Konami or Hideo Kojima fans. Perhaps a remaster for a Metal Gear Solid title is in question, or even a main console remaster for Contra or Castlevania? There have been rumors of these IP remakes in the work for the Nintendo Switch as revealed earlier this year, but what particular franchise of spin-off would you like to see remastered?
