Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning Won’t Receive Remaster Without EA’s Approval

Big Huge Games and 38 Studios created Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning with the help of creator R.A. Salvatore and company. That was back in 2012, which is 6 plus years ago. Recently, however, THQ Nordic acquired the rights to the series and some fans voiced desire for a remaster of the original, but it’s unlikely to happen; that is unless Electronic Arts grants their approval.

From the story created by the renown R.A. Salvatore, THQ Nordic only has the intellectual property for their own creations and not the previously released Reckoning. Responding to inquiries from Eurogamer, THQ Nordic stated:

At this stage we ‘only’ acquired the intellectual property. Given our track record, we know what the burning questions (remaster, remake, port to current-gen systems etc.) are, but we decided do not answer those specifically as we tend to put our heads together first and then do our homework, and only start to talk about anything once we feel confident and very familiar with the franchise.”

In other words, THQ Nordic is hesitant to state any official going-ons with the Kingdoms of Amalur license. At this point in time, EA still has publishing rights to Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Worst case scenario, EA doesn’t approve of a remaster and the team moves forward with a sequel. For those who miss the days of the 2012 classic, another run through is always an option. With that said, that doesn’t guarantee a sequel will happen anytime soon either, but it does spell for a hopeful future for the property. Hopefully, R.A. Salvatore will run the creative side once more.

Nonetheless, this is a pretty bold move on THQ Nordic’s part and as a fellow fan of Reckoning, I look forward to a sequel if there is to be one. What do you think EA’s response will be to the remaster of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning? Should there be a remaster of the game or a sequel?
