Kingdom Hearts’ Sora Is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Final DLC (VIDEO)
In the over three years since its release, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has acquired one of the most formidable rosters in all of gaming, bringing together the wide-reaching likes of Mario, Tekken, and Banjo-Kazooie for an inter-IP crossover brawl for the ages. While the game has been an assured topic of speculation pretty much since its announcement, the fun has conclusively reached its sunset with the reveal of the title’s final DLC character: Kingdom Hearts’ Sora.
Revealed in a previously-announced livestream event, game director and series creator Masahiro Sakurai officially unveiled the final character DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The reveal trailer, seen below, is a decidedly emotional one, which sees the entire Ultimate roster gather in a recreation of the game’s original announcement teaser from back in 2018. As the anticipation builds, the familiar Keyblade weapon materializes into view, followed by the majestic reveal of Sora himself. The reveal stream also unveiled a release date for the DLC, coming October 18th.
This latest DLC comes after a considerable post-launch lineup for the latest Smash Bros title, including a whopping 11 characters and themed stages across two seasonal Fighters Pass collections. Today’s new addition of Sora now brings this number up to 12, a fitting endnote for the massively-rostered game, which, after factoring in all DLC, now sports 90 main fighters in total. Of course, this is without even considering the hundred-plus available Mii Fighter variations, which have acted as a secondary means of bringing other popular third-party characters into the fold.
This announcement is surely an emotional occasion for fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as it not only marks the arrival of Kingdom Hearts’ Sora, but the finale of the game altogether. Sakurai has hinted at the end of DLC for a while now, but now that the day has finally come, it truly feels like the end of an exciting era for fans. It’s currently unknown what the future might hold for the Super Smash Bros. series, but the inevitable sequel will undoubtedly have some Ultimate shoes to fill.
