GOG Galaxy Offering The Witcher Game For Free, Here’s How To Get It
In just a few short days, players at long last will finally get their hands on the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077. The massive project hopes to continue developer-publisher CD Projekt RED’s growth as a major piece of the gaming industry. Aside from simply releasing video games, CD Projekt has also strengthened its position in the industry with the digital PC gaming platform GOG.com as well as the GOG Galaxy launcher. Capitalizing on the new release, the company has begun promoting its storefront by offering free Witcher items for those that connect Cyberpunk 2077 to a GOG account. Now, CD Projekt RED is throwing another gift at GOG users: one of its games for free.
As reported by Game Informer, CD Projekt and GOG Galaxy have announced that they will be giving away free access to their classic first Witcher game. GOG users that sign up for the service’s mailing list will be able to add The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut to their account for free. Existing users may need to download an update, but checking the “Recent” view and clicking “Giveaway” will lead to the online form for signing up for the proper email list. According to CDPR, The Witcher will show up in a user’s game library “after a while.”
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut was first released in 2009 as a graphically enhanced version of the original 2007 release, including the base game in addition to content initially censored in North America. For those who joined The Witcher party late with sequel titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, this is a great excuse to check out the series’ origins. Steam and the Epic Game store are powerhouses in PC gaming retail, but moves like this make CD Projekt RED and GOG Galaxy fans loyal to that platform.
