The DC Comics brand is one that has become perhaps the biggest multimedia juggernaut owned by Warner Bros., and its expansion across various entertainment mediums have only grown in recent years. One big new sector that Warner Bros. has cultivated in the past decade has been the DC Comics television series universe, or Arrowverse as it is often referred to, on the CW. A big shakeup came several months ago when the star of the new Batwoman series, Ruby Rose, announced that she would be leaving the series after one season. Now, Warner Bros. has released the first official full image of Javicia Leslie as the new CW Batwoman.

As reported on Variety, Warner Bros. and The CW have released the first two official images of Javicia Leslie as the new CW Batwoman. It was previously announced that the departing Ruby Rose’s character Kate Kane would not be killed off, but would be replaced by Leslie’s new character, Ryan Wilder. A close-up image of Leslie in the Batman mask was previously revealed, but the rest of her bat suit could not be seen.

The new batsuit looks fairly similar to that of Ruby Rose’s, but with some updates to fit the style of Javicia Leslie. The big difference now being that Rose’s protruding red wig is now replaced with an afro hairstyle. This was specifically done by Maya Mani when conceptualizing the new look to emphasize the importance of Leslie portraying the first live action Batwoman. Leslie herself says that “it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl. With the form-fitting suit and beautiful Afro, we definitely nailed it!” Leslie certainly seems to have the physical presence needed to fill in the Batboots. We will see how her story begins when season 2 of Batwoman arrives in January 2021. This is definitely the hero we need right now, and hopefully by then, we will be a society that deserves her too.
