First Footage From Blade Runner 2049 (Video)
Just in time for the holidays, Warner Bros. has gifted us our first glimpse of Blade Runner 2. Harrison Ford returns for the sequel to what since opening in 1982 to divided reviews has arguably become a sci-fi classic. Check out the announcement trailer below and then stay with us as we discuss:
As should be expected, the footage really doesn’t dive into the film’s plot but for fans of the original, the dystopian future motif that the trailer has going on definitely invokes memories of it’s predecessor.
This time around, Canadian director Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) takes over the reigns for Ridley Scott. Harrison Ford returns to reprise his role of Rick Deckard and is joined by newcomer Ryan Gosling. Not much is know about Gosling’s mysterious character that goes by “K” but the footage accompanied by the official synopsis (shown below) sheds a little light on what could end up being the film’s main protagonist. The trailer, along with the new synopsis, paints a picture of K who following in Deckard’s footsteps is a LAPD blade runner that has stumbled upon a secret of epic proportions which leads him on a journey to find Ford’s character who has been missing for three decades.
Official Synopsis:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
The film’s cast also includes Jared Leto, Dave Bautista, Carla Juri, Barkhad Abdi, Robin Wright, and Mackenzie Davis with the script pinned by Hampton Fancher (the original Blade Runner) and Michael Green (Logan, Alien: Covenant). Blade Runner 2049 is slated to hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
