Final Fantasy XIV Is Holding Its 3rd Annual Gear Design Contest
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is known for its deep, rewarding story and exciting gameplay, though Square Enix’s MMORPG is also known for the myriad number of gear sets and weapons to be found within the game. Some of the weapons and armor are throwbacks to previous FF games, while others are designed specifically for FFXIV. That said, as the game is always expanding between expansions and regular updates, the design team could use a break, and that’s where you come in. Final Fantasy XIV is holding its 3rd annual gear design contest, and the winning entries get to have their designs implemented into the game.
Announced over on the FFXIV website, the gear design contest this time around calls for Melee and Physical Ranged DPS gear sets. The time period during which participants can send in their designs is April 19 through May 21. The grand prize winners and runners-up will all receive an in-game item package featuring some cosmetic items. These items are: one Gaelicap, one Noble Barding chocobo barding, one Ahriman Choker, one Mandragora Choker, and a Bluebird Earring. Last year’s contest was for both Healer and Ranged Magic DPS, and the final product of the former can be seen at the top of the page. For those wondering what it takes to win the contest, here is the actual design of the gear, below:
Here is the official announcement from Square Enix:
It’s time to put your creativity to the test once more for the third community gear design contest. Whether you’re more of a leatherworker, weaver, armorcrafter or goldsmith, we’d like to see what you can come up with for melee and ranged physical DPS gear designs! Will you aim to please, or capture the striking spirit of frontline fighters?
As with our previous gear design contests, the winning entries will be implemented in-game as new available attire for player characters, so head to the drawing board and show us what you’ve got!”
Final Fantasy XIV is now available for PC and PlayStation 4.
