WATCH: Final Fantasy 14 Update Trailer Heralds The Return Of Kefka

Final Fantasy 14 Update

Square Enix has announced a new Final Fantasy 14 update that is arriving later this month, titled “Rise of a New Sun”. The team behind FFXIV has never failed in delivering quality content jam packed with nostalgia for fans of the Final Fantasy series, and the latest update certainly appears to be worthy of the team’s legacy thus far. In one of the more recent updates for the Stormblood expansionFinal Fantasy V’s Exdeath was added in as one of the game’s bosses. Rise of a New Sun appears to be putting a heavier focus on bosses from Final Fantasy 6, as a few familiar-looking enemies are showcased in the trailer for the update. Check it out below, and make sure to watch until the very end:

First and foremost, yes, that was Kefka right there at the end. For those unaware, Kefka is the nutcase that ended up being the final boss of Final Fantasy 6, almost eclipsing Sephiroth in popularity. There were a few interesting reveals that occurred prior to his creepy face showing up, though. The continuation of the Stormblood storyline brings the Warrior of Light along the pathway of a few other FFVI bosses, too. It appears that both Chadarnook – a demon possessing a portait of Lakshmi – and perhaps even Doomtrain are in the next update, though the latter is speculation based on a scenario taking place on a runaway train.

In addition to the exciting new bosses, the update also brings the new dungeon Hell’s Lid to the table, as well as a Hard Mode of existing dungeon The Fractal Continuum. Additionally, a new primal fight against Byakko, one of the Four Lords, will be made available. There are also a few other additions that typically occur during major updates, such as new beast tribe quests and a housing update that will hopefully alleviate some of the typical congestion in the new housing areas. Final Fantasy 14 is available for PC and PlayStation 4.
