Fan-Made Dragon Ball Game Puts Some of the Official Titles to Shame – Plays Like a 2D Fighter (VIDEO)

Dragon Ball has been around for a very long time and with an incredibly loyal following, to boot. With such a large franchise naturally there have been many games that have come out regarding the series, namely from the larger Dragon Ball Z era. Some of them were fantastic, others fell completely flat – and very few of these titles find their way to a PC platform aside from Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2. A fan-made Dragon Ball game aims to rectify that.

Hyper Dragon Ball Z is a 2D fighting game created by a development group called Team Z2 and is comprised of fans of the Dragon Ball series. The team has created something reminiscent of classic 2D fighters from the 90’s. The game is non-profit and built using the freeware fighting engine Mugen. In order to bring back the feel of those early fighters, the team has built the art and music from scratch. This means that the characters, the battlefield landscapes, as well as the sounds are all fresh and new, created using scenes from Dragon Ball Z’s history as references. This includes fighting skills and special abilities which are incorporated into each playable character’s moveset.

Hyper DBZ has been playable for quite some time. The trailer above shows off new characters and updates to existing characters in terms of balancing, new stages, and various other updates. The second half of the trailer also shows off characters that Team Z2 plans to add to the game later this year. Currently there are only 9 playable characters including Goku, SSJ Goku, Vegeta, Majin Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Frieza, Babidi, and Hercule.

Fan Made Dragon Ball Game

Fans wishing to show support for the games creators can do so on Facebook and Twitter as well as donate to Balthazar’s patreon. This fan-made Dragon Ball game looks impressive. Only time will tell how long the game lasts before official channels wish to take the game down like so many other fan-made titles of cherished franchises..
