Rockfish Games initially revealed Everspace 2 back in 2019, with an Early Access period set to launch in the very near future. However, thanks to the delay of what might be 2020’s biggest title, the Early Access period for the follow-up to 2017’s Everspace has also been delayed.

The devs recently took to the project’s Kickstarter page to provide an update for fans. “Let’s get the cyber elephant out of the room right away: The Cyberpunk 2077 release has just been pushed back to December 10, which is a major blow to our planned Everspace 2 Early Access release in mid-December,” Rockfish said. “Not only will every media outlet and content creator cover the arguably most-anticipated AAA game in history throughout the entire holiday season (and not much else), we also know that there’s quite a bit of audience overlap within our community (and our team).”

This has led Rockfish to delaying the Early Access period for Everspace 2 to January 2021. It’s not all bad news for fans, however, as eligible backers will be getting access to the closed Beta beginning on November 2nd. “Yes, you heard right, instead of waiting until mid-December, everyone who pledged for a digital copy will be able to delve into the closed Beta this Monday and start experiencing the first 10ish hours of what we have planned for Early Access,” reads the update. “Of course, there’s no time constraint, so feel free to melt your PC as long as you want to and share some pretty screenshots with our awesome community on our discord.”

Essentially, with Cyberpunk 2077 now releasing on December 10th, it’s understandable that some studios may want to move around a few things. At least the games launch this month now have a bit of breathing room. As for Everspace 2, Early Access will now launch at some point in January.
