EA Might Release More Nintendo Switch Games if FIFA 18 Performs Well

More Nintendo Switch Games

With FIFA 18 making its way to Nintendo’s newest console next month, it makes one wonder if any other Switch games will be coming out of EA. If so, it may take some time due to the fact that the system can’t handle the Frostbite 3 engine. This, of course, means that Electronic Arts would have to create something different to run its titles on the Switch, much like they did with the upcoming FIFA installment.

Recently speaking with EDGE, Worldwide Studios VP Patrick Soderlund stated his enthusiasm for the new hybrid console, and that EA is certainly interested in developing more Switch games. However, the chance of more titles coming to the Nintendo system seemingly depends on the success of FIFA 18. Here’s what he had to say:

I’ve made people repeatedly, publicly aware that I’m a gigantic Nintendo fanboy. Nintendo was what got me into this industry in the first place. I take my Switch with me everywhere.

What I will say is, we will appear on any platform where there are consumers, and players. We believe that we want to be a part of the Switch, and help Nintendo grow that installed base; that’s why you’ll see FIFA, which by the way is really good this year. It’s a full-fledged FIFA game, for the first time to be honest, on a portable device.

But at the same time we have to look at it from a resource standpoint and, at some point, the numbers become a factor. So for us it’s about supporting the platform, building technology for the platform, testing it out with big things like FIFA – and maybe a couple of others, we’ll see – and if they go well, I see no reason why we shouldn’t have as much of our portfolio on that platform as possible. I hope we get there, that would be my personal ambition.”

Of course, if more Switch games were to come out of EA, what would they be? Would Electronic Arts rework past titles to meet the console’s needs, or would they bring something entirely new to the table? Also, by the way Soderlund is sounding, the company likely already has something in the works. This would put them in a position to release something once they know FIFA 18 is a hit on the Switch.
