Actor Doug Jones Talks About Star Trek Discovery’s New Alien and His Role
In the business of acting, a versatile actor is certainly worth their weight. One such actor that certainly stands out as a strong figure in Hollywood for his talent and strength in the business is Doug Jones. A chameleon in his line of work, Jones has made a name for himself taking on such roles as The Pale Man and The Faun in “Labyrinth”, Abe Sapien in the “Hellboy” duology, and other various creatures in television and film. In his latest acting venture, Jones has taken on another unique alien character, though it has only been recently that news of the series’ mysterious alien race has beeen brought to life.
According to show producer Aaron Harberts, “Doug Jones character plays Lt. Saru. What we can tell you that adds the context to that clip where he says he can sense the coming of death is that he comes from a planet where he’s a ‘prey species.’ He’s the first of his kind to make it to Starfleet.”
Doug Jones then spoke out about the alien life form, shedding a little more light onto the character. Since the show will feature an enemy alien species that will certainly prove dangerous to the main characters, his own character will have a driving force in battling the villains,
[Producers] said Saru is the Spock of the series, he’s the Data of the series — and those are beloved characters that I always connect with whenever I would watch the past incarnations of Star Trek. On Falling Skies, I played an alien species who came to Earth to help the humans fight back the bad aliens who’d taken over, and I was intelligent, well-spoken, had a lot of answers and science-y smart. Saru is all of those things and then some.”
Star Trek Discovery premieres on September 24th and stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Anthony Rapp, Shazad Latif, and Mary Wiseman.
