Donkey Kong Country Joins Nintendo Switch Online Next Week (VIDEO)

Donkey Kong Country Nintendo Switch

Since first rolling out back in 2018, Nintendo has been offering a number of perks to users subscribed to their online services. One of the biggest highlights has been a lineup of classic NES and SNES games available to play for free at a moment’s notice, with new selections added to the platform on a semi-regular basis. Though not every game has made the list yet, a number of each system’s most beloved retro titles have been introduced so far alongside surprises such as the previously unreleased Star Fox 2. Now, arguably one of the best platformers for the SNES is finally making its way to Nintendo Switch Online in the form of Donkey Kong Country.

Confirmed recently by Nintendo (via Prima Games), the long-requested Rare title is finally joining Nintendo Switch in just under a week’s time, with the “king of swing” himself set to arrive on July 15th. The 3D-styled jungle platformer will be introduced along with high-flying sports title Natsume Championship Wrestling as well as NES wizard adventure The Immortal. A look at each of the upcoming selections can be viewed in the official tweet below.

While Donkey Kong Country will surely introduce barrels of fun when it finally hits the Switch, the game joins quite a few more that are freely available to play for subscribers. Following the NES additions of Punch Out!!, The Legend of Zelda, and the original Super Mario trilogy, the SNES side of things has already but up a solid array of games such as Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. A full list of available NES games and SNES games can be viewed in DFTG’s respective lists.
