“Disenchantment” Coming to Netflix From Futurama and Simpsons Creator Matt Groening

Disenchantment

Netflix CEO Reed Hastings has recently said that he wants the company to begin taking bigger risks because they should be cancelling more shows than they currently do. This, of course, came as a bit of a surprise due to the fact that a lot of their original content has been a hit with fans. Despite this, however, shows like Sense8, Marco Polo, The Get Down, and Bloodline have all met their demise on the streaming service, but that is only going to fuel the fire of creativity behind their team and those who are brought in. One such person that has been tapped to create a new animated series is Futurama and Simpsons creator Matt Groening, and it was just announced that Disenchantment will be coming to the platform next year.

In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.”

Groening will be teaming up with Josh Weinstein to executive produce the “adult animated comedy fantasy series”. The show will be animated by Rough Draft Studios, the same company that worked on Futurama, and it will star Abbi Jacobson as Bean, Nat Faxon as Elfo, and Eric Andre as Luci. Of course, no Groening project is complete without the voices of John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maruice LaMarche, Tres MacNeille, and David Herman. Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery will also be joining the cast.

Regarding the show, Matt said, “Ultimately, Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you.” Twenty episodes were ordered by Netflix, with the first set of ten due to arrive at some point in 2018.
