Marvel Wants Director Jon Watts Back for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2
Spider-Man: Homecoming officially swung into theaters earlier this month and the web-headed adventure has enjoyed quite the successful two weeks. The spectacular film has definitely left fans wanting more and our friendly neighborhood hero is set to next appear in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. As for Homecoming‘s sequel, not a whole lot is known about the solo film outside its July 5, 2019 release date, but according to The Hollywood Reporter it looks as though Jon Watts may be returning to the director chair.
As the recent report declares, Marvel and Sony are both happy with what Watts has brought to the new Spidey movie and are working to secure the director for the yet unnamed sequel. If negotiations are successful, he will join actor Tom Holland and presumably whoever comes out of Infinity War with their lives intact. The events in Homecoming 2 will likely pick up where the first left off, Peter Parker juggling his studies and his Spider-Man heroics while living in Queens, New York, except he’ll be dealing with the confrontation with Thanos and his minions.
Sony and Marvel’s desire to bring back Jon Watts is hardly surprising since Spider-Man: Homecoming has been making some serious money around the world, closing in on $500 million total box office revenue. What do you think? Are you glad Watts is returning to direct, or should they just bring back Sam Raimi?
