Developer Says They’re Not “Turning the Lights Off on Destiny 1” in the Foreseeable Future

With the upcoming title Destiny 2 making all the headlines, fans have to wonder if Destiny 1 is done for good. In the middle of the sequel’s hype train, the first game in the series is having its last big hurrah, Age of Triumph. This event really feels final, and with the knowledge that the sequel will start fresh with nothing transferred from the first, it’s easy to see why some are worried. Bungie’s Community Manager, David Dague, assured the players that the event is meant to celebrate the end, but it doesn’t mean the support for Destiny 1 will end with it.

We are celebrating the conclusion of the adventure of Destiny 1. Destiny 1 is still a game that will be there for players. We’ve planned to support it for the foreseeable future, so while we do have a sense of finality and closure as the theme of this [Age of Triumph] event, we are by no means turning the lights off on Destiny 1.”

Dague also says that while some fans are ready to move on to new adventures, Bungie understands that some may want to revisit their time with Destiny 1 and “the game will still be there for them.” Players who are new to Destiny and want to start from the beginning can see “how it all started” because “those origin stories will be waiting for them.” We’re sure some very grateful fans are letting out sighs of relief right about now, and with Destiny 2 coming on September 8th, they can finally relax knowing the new game will not kill off the old one.
