Deus Ex Franchise Goes on Hiatus, Guardians of the Galaxy at Forefront
Square Enix and Eidos Montreal will probably place the Deus Ex franchise on hiatus until further notice. At least, until the game studio isn’t so divided in manpower. With two large scale projects underway, it isn’t hard to imagine why. Currently, Eidos is focusing their energy into Guardians of the Galaxy and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The latter title may sound familiar, given the circumstances that it was discovered. Unfortunately, due to the negligence of an employee, the title was leaked and posted on Reddit.
This does not mean that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will not be kept up to date, especially since the studio hasn’t released “A Criminal Past” story DLC yet.
According to a report by Eurogamer, most of the Eidos studio is working on “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”. However, some of the team is hard at work on the new Avengers game in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics. Meanwhile, the Tomb Raider group is working with Telltale Games on the second Guardians of the Galaxy game. Talk about busy bees!
No official word from any party, yet. More than likely, there won’t be an announcement regarding a hiatus of any kind. It may very well just be quiet on their end for a time. However, Eurogamer successfully inquired regarding the Deus Ex franchise, with this response from an Eidos Montreal representative:
While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we’re also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project.”
What do you think will be the fate of Deus Ex? Do you think the lack of sales for Mankind Divided contributed to this, as well? Feel free to let us know in the comments section below. We would love to hear from you!
