Detective Pikachu Movie Will Feature Live-Action Pokemon Battle
Pokemon has long-held a lasting appeal from its beloved entries to the mediums of gaming, anime, and trading cards, with the realm of live-action notably alluding the series’ entertainment grasp. That fact changes with the upcoming Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, a film premising a bizarre talking Pikachu with a penchant for coffee and hard-boiled detective work.
Outside the movie’s casting and general source material, much about the adaptation has been kept under wraps, with this year’s Pokemon World Championships event finally providing some new tidbits. Among the reveal of the film’s official logo (seen below), new details came forward about one of the film’s action-packed scenes involving a climactic Pokemon battle.

A battle with fellow Pocket Monster Charizard was revealed as part of the showcase with the popular fire-type confirmed for a fight with Detective Pikachu himself. Casting for the winged behemoth was also confirmed to have not taken place as of yet.

A confrontation of this type parallels events from the original Detective Pikachu game, which notably referenced a Charizard rampage in the mystery story. While a big battle didn’t take place in that instance, the upcoming movie seems to have one waiting for viewers, a change fans will likely be on board for. I mean, it is Charizard after all!
Besides a spectacular Poke-fight, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is already positioned to be a pretty fun time. This is evident by the film’s addition of Deadpool’s Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu, Goosebumps director Rob Letterman at the helm, and writing credits by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls). Pokemon: Detective Pikachu is scheduled to hit theaters on May 10th, 2019.
