Dead Or Alive 6 Announced With New Trailer, More Info Coming Soon (VIDEO)

Dead or Alive 6

Fans have been enjoying the excitement of fighting game Dead or Alive since 1996. Now, over 20 years later, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have released an announcement trailer for the latest installment, Dead or Alive 6.

The game is bringing back a lot of its familiarity but also has some new tricks up its sleeve. IGN had a chance to sit down with Yohei Shimbori, the director and producer of the game, for a playtest and chat about the new title. One thing noted immediately is that the game felt like it always has, which may put many fans at ease when considering Dead or Alive 6. Take a look at the intense gameplay for yourself below:

Shimbori was adamant about the core mechanics remaining the same, but new features are also arriving for Dead or Alive 6. A new “Break Gauge” has been added and it fills as the player lands a blow or blocks an attack. Once full, the gauge can be used to unleash devastating attacks and even counter attacks. A new button command was featured for new players as well, unleashing a few combos when pressed, here is what Shimbori had to say about it:

In Japan, there is a game for kids where you make two sumo wrestlers out of folded paper or cardboard, place them on a platform, and two players tap the platform repeatedly with only one finger until one of the sumo figures collapses in defeat. Today, games developed for smartphone devices are often played with similar simplicity. That made me want to create a fighting game playable with only one finger, and this idea became the foundation of the new Special button.”

This new special button isn’t an auto-win tactic. Players may find that overusing it can give the defender advantage by getting behind them as they execute the “rescue” button. Overall it seems that the developers are interested in making Dead or Alive 6 as enjoyable for old players as new ones. More information will come on June 11th at E3 2018, but for now, we know the title will be available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
