Dark Horse Announces “Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive” Comprehensive Art Book
Die hard Final Fantasy fans are going to have something to spend their money on next year. Dark Horse has announced a collaborative project between itself and Square Enix, culminating in a series of comprehensive art books that chronicle the artistic history of Final Fantasy games. The first book – titled Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Vol. 1 – will cover the first six numbered games in the series. The Oregon-based publisher provided a description of the book, which can be found here:
Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive is an astonishing journey through the creation of the seminal roleplaying epic, officially licensed for the first time ever!
This holy grail of Final Fantasy fandom is packed full of original concept art, process pieces, and notes from the original artists and designers chronicling the creation of these timeless games. Containing a total of over three hundred pages collected in a high-quality hard-cover binding, Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 1 remains faithful to its original Japanese source material while simultaneously offering unparalleled accessibility for Western readers. No Final Fantasy collection is complete without this beautiful tome of art, lore, and history.”
Final Fantasy Ultimania Vol. 1 isn’t the first FF-related art book that has been announced recently. Just last month, Cook & Decker announced that a Final Fantasy 15 art book is currently in production, with an estimated shipping time of December 2017. The art book features 220 pages of the art and design of both the core game and its movie spin-off, Kingsglaive. While this book won’t be as series-spanning as Final Fantasy Ultimania Vol. 1, it will at least feature some of Ignis’ tasty campfire recipes, so it has that going for it. Final Fantasy Ultimania Vol. 1 is scheduled to arrive on June 05, 2018.
