Cyberpunk 2077 Will Have Similar Quest Structure To The Witcher 3
One of the best things about The Witcher 3 was the lengthy, episodic side quests and adventures players could experience as they progressed their way through the game. From stories like the heart-breaking tale of the Bloody Baron and Crookback Bog to the light-hearted humor of small stories found in quests like “A Frying Pan, Spick and Span” there was a whole lot for players to love. In keeping with this format, the folks at CD Projekt RED say that a similar thought process went into conceiving quests for Cyberpunk 2077.
Speaking with PC Gamer, CDPR quest designer Patrick Mills says that not only do the quests retain the logical placement that they had in Witcher 3, there are way more ways to actually complete them. He said:
[The process] has gotten even more complicated in Cyberpunk—there are more multiple ways to resolve individual quests. Before, there were usually a few ways, a couple of decision points. Now there are whole different ways to play the quest.”
Not only that, but Cyberpunk would be taking on the same kind of length and thickness in regards to story and possibility that Witcher 3’s quests featured.
Particularly in terms of playtime and in terms of quest complexity. Specifically, I’d even look more at the expansions than The Witcher 3 base game because that’s really where the quest design philosophy that we’re using now came from—it was developed later in the expansions.”
While these claims sound bold, it’s important to remember that CDPR has been developing this game for over five years. On top of that, The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt was an absolutely fantastic game that delivered some of the most complex and meaningful quest lines seen in a Western RPG in years. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to doubt that CDPR will deliver an amazing game in Cyberpunk 2077, but a release date would be nice!
