Cyberpunk 2077: Video Games Discussed As “Collaborative Art Pieces” By Devs
CD Projekt RED is having quite the time this year with their upcoming futuristic RPG. The game’s official Twitter account beeped its way back to life after years of radio silence, a beautiful trailer hacked its way into Microsoft’s E3 presentation, and the world has now seen 48 minutes of glorious Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay with the recent reveal.
That said, fans are certainly hyped for the future title, even if we will be waiting a couple years until it is released. That means we’ll gladly take any and all information CDPR is ready to unveil. During a recent interview, quest designer Patrick Mills touched on what has gone into creating the RPG thus far, especially the collaborative effort made by a rather diverse team.
“We’ve taken something where everyone looks around and you can see the issues,” Mills said. “And you might have different perspectives on them, and even within our development team, the game is being made by huge numbers of people with very different opinions. I have co-workers – colleagues, good friends – that I disagree with very, very strongly, and they very strongly disagree with me.”
“And all of us are making this together,” they continued. “It’s very likely that when you play this game, just like Witcher 3… there are contradictions in Witcher 3. There’s scenes that say one thing and there’s scenes that say something else. And they may be a contradiction, but that’s great, that’s wonderful. These are not just mass market consumer goods, they are also these collaborative… god, this sounds pretentious, but they’re collaborative art pieces at the same time. Just like movies, just like television. I like to think so.”
To be fair, that seems like a great way to go about such a massive project that Cyberpunk 2077 seemingly is. Night City is poised to be the most realistic environment we’ve seen in a video game, and with a diverse development team, we can only imagine how that has influenced the characters we’ll meet.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as we learn more about the future futuristic RPG, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
