Old School Brawlers Inspire New Cartoon Network Show/Video Game (Gallery)
Before the premiere of the new Cartoon Network show, there was already an announcement for the video game equivalent, OK K.O.: Let’s Play Heroes. The show that has yet to be released, was inspired by video games while the new game reverses that and takes inspiration from cartoons. It was developed in tandem with the show and the series creator Ian Jones-Quartey has had direct input on the game.
The series OK K.O. follows the newest employee of Gar’s Bodega named K.O.. The convenience store serves superheroes and K.O. desperately wants to become one himself. Both the show and the game follow his journey to become immortalized on his very own POW card which are collectible cards that represent each of the town’s heroes. The creator says that despite the connection between the two, the new game is not a normal adaption, in that it, “explores the series and its characters from a different angle.”
OK K.O.: Let’s Play Heroes allows players to explore the town of Lakewood Plaza and the side-scrolling beat-em-up game has some small RPG elements as well. Go on quests and battle “Shannons” who are the robotic minions of Boxmore, the series’ antagonist. Collect POW cards to restore their powers after Boxmore reset them to zero, by completing quests for the characters on the cards. Once power has been restored to a card, K.O. can then summon the hero’s skills in battle. According to the developer, there will be many different POW cards to collect full of different abilities to use in a fight.
While the TV series premiers this August on Cartoon Network, OK K.O.: Let’s Play Heroes will be released this Fall for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. What do you think of this silly new game/show?
