Brand New Horizon: Zero Dawn Updates Available Now – Here’s What to Expect

2 new Horizon: Zero Dawn updates are currently available, one that fixes a variety of bugs and issues and another that ironically fixes another issue caused by the first update. Update version 1.21 covers a number of things including issues that occurred after disabling the HUD and some progression bugs that have been preventing players from actually advancing in the game. Update version 1.22 addresses a crash that was reported to happen while climbing upon certain mounts which became an issue following the 1.21 patch.

Some players who were having issues with Photo Mode will be happy to hear that the new Horizon: Zero Dawn updates have fixed that problem. The developer has also assured players that if anyone runs into any issues that they will handle things as best as they can. They ask that you first try to backtrack to your most recent save and if it does not fix the problem, you should take a screen shot and send it with your in-game location to the Guerrilla support team. Below are the full patch notes for the new Horizon: Zero Dawn updates, but be warned that there are some potential spoilers which we have marked so watch out for them.

Patch Notes for Update Version 1.21

General Bug Fixes

  • Issue with the lure call where players could lure bandits from the other side of the camps has been resolved by reducing the call’s range.
  • They fixed the problem where some players could be thrown from a Tallneck’s head and killed when it makes a very sharp turn during its path.
  • The issue where some player’s ‘Strike from Above’ wouldn’t activate when coming from a zip line has been fixed as well as the problem where Aloy got stuck until the strike’s completion.
  • They fixed a problem with the ‘Show HUD on touch’ menu option not resetting to the default value.
  • Now the ‘Inactive Quests’ toggle option will also filter the ‘New Quests’ icons from the map screen.
  • The problem where the interaction markers were set to ‘always off’ in the custom HUD menu, but when some players would position the camera through a bandit’s body the interaction markers would appear visible again, has been resolved.
  • The issue where some players wouldn’t get a notification when they have leveled up if they had the ‘XP bar’ feature set to ‘always off’ in the custom HUD menu has been fixed.

Photo Mode

  • Fixed the problem where changing poses after throwing a rock would cause conflict between animations where Aloy’s body would begin to bend, twist and spin rapidly.
  • Corrected the problem with the ‘Field of view’ option where it could cause several level of detail issues especially when overlooking Meridian.
  • They addressed an issue with the ‘Look At’ toggle and Body Poses being available during hit reactions that Aloy triggers on herself such as falling and grenade damage.
  • They fixed the issue with the ‘Greetings’ option whilst on top of the Spire that would state the player is located in the Estate.
  • Problems with Aloy twisting and bending if the player selects the ‘Look At’ toggle shortly after closing the focus have been fixed.
  • Fixed the problem where having previous Photo Mode settings active whilst in a new instance of Photo Mode with the Focus open would cause animation issues when pressing the triangle button.
  • The ‘Greetings’ option where the wrong weather effect would be mentioned while at Mother’s Crown was fixed.

Progression Issues (SPOILERS!)

  • The issue in “Hunter’s Blind” where some players cannot progress past Hunter’s Blind and follow Talanah because Aloy was bound to the sequence of “The City of the Sun” quest has been resolved.
  • The issue in “Deep Secrets of the Earth” where some players were not able to obtain the datapoints in Sobeck’s office if the player wants to pick them up after the explosion caused by Helis, as they have disappeared has been addressed.
  • They fixed the problem in “Underequipped” where some players encountered that one of the objectives would become blank once completed if the player started the quest at Hunter’s Gathering.
  • In “Maker’s End” where some players were able to avoid a progression trigger, resulting in the player getting stuck on the ‘Go to Ted’s Office’ objective is now fixed.

They also fixed various crash issues throughout the game. Have you tested the new Horizon: Zero Dawn updates yet?
