Borderlands 3 “Wouldn’t Be As Good As It Is Now” Without Battleborn, Says Gearbox
Only a few months remain before gamers are able to sink their teeth into the highly anticipated next installment in the Borderlands series. That said, according to art director Scott Kester in a recent interview with Metro GameCentral, Borderlands 3 would not be nearly as good as it is today without a little help from Battleborn.
As many of you likely know, Battleborn didn’t exactly rise to the success that Gearbox was likely hoping for, but this may have had something to do with it arriving in the same month that another now popular hero-shooter did – Overwatch. However, were it not for this title, Borderlands 3 likely would have been developed differently. “Okay, so we made 1 and we made 2 pretty back-to-back,” Kester said. “I was on both of those games and we were tired. And we were like, ‘Should we make another one?’ And we didn’t want to, we needed a break. Because if we didn’t have a break I think we wouldn’t have made something as good.”
He continued to say how Borderlands 3 simply would not be as good if it weren’t for Battleborn. “By the grace of the beautiful 2K, they allowed us to say, ‘Hey, we want to try this Battleborn thing, we just want to kind of reset our palette, we’re gonna try this thing,’” Kester said. “And we did it and… you know, if we didn’t make that game Borderlands 3 wouldn’t be as good as it is now. It made us think about things a little different.”
As for Borderlands 3, the game is set to arrive on September 13th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
